Nature dreaming

This trekking option is ideal for guests with an average fitness level, as it involves four days of hiking up and down hills, requiring a moderate level of physical fitness. A special highlight of this trek is spending three nights in two different peaceful campsites in the jungle.

During this adventure, you will delve deep into the rainforest, enhancing your knowledge about Sumatra's rainforest and the biodiversity of the Gunung Leuser Ecosystem. You will have the opportunity to witness the magic of the jungle in designated wildlife spotting areas, where you may encounter gibbons, Thomas leaf monkeys, longtail and pigtail macaques, flying squirrels, Sumatran peacocks, hornbills, and even wild orangutans.

 

Our experienced guide will share fascinating facts about Sumatra's rainforest and its diverse wildlife. Additionally, you will see unique jungle tree formations and tropical plants, learning about their medicinal uses and ecological importance. This trek offers a comprehensive and enriching experience, combining physical activity with educational insights into one of the world's most biodiverse regions.

Itinerary

Day 1: Introduction to the Jungle and Wildlife

Morning:

8:30 AM: Pickup from guesthouse in Bukit Lawang

Begin journey into Gunung Leuser National Park

Trekking duration: 6-7 hours

 

Activities:

Learn about local wildlife, flora, and fauna

Lunch break, during the trek

 

Afternoon:

Continue trekking to spot more wildlife

Possible sightings: Orang-Utan, Thomas’ leaf monkey, white-handed gibbon, black gibbon, long-tailed macaque, pig-tailed macaque, hornbills, peacocks, monitor lizards

Learn about medicinal plants and trees

Evening:

Set up camp next to a small river in Perbatasan

Activities: Swimming, helping with dinner preparation, learning jungle skills

Overnight: Sleep surrounded by jungle and river sounds

 

Day 2: Deeper Jungle Exploration

Morning:

Continue trekking and wildlife spotting

Focus on orangutans: behaviour, lifestyle, social skills

Trekking duration: 5-6 hours

Afternoon:

Trek towards Jamur Batu Atas

Relax and refresh at a nearby waterfall with a deep natural pool

 

Evening:

Overnight: Camp deep in the jungle at Jamur Batu Atas

 

Day 3: Mountain Summit and Forest Adventure

 

Morning:

Trek 500 meters to the mountain summit.

Enjoy panoramic views.

Trekking duration: 5-6 hours

Afternoon:

Head deeper into Gunung Leuser National Park

Experience dense forest beauty and wildlife

 

Evening:

Set up camp next to Bohorok river (Ekor)

Activities: Relaxing, swimming, fishing

Dinner: Followed by a bonfire, jungle skills, games, and songs by guides (weather permitting)

Overnight: Sleep by the river

 

Day 4: Conclusion and Rafting Adventure

 

Morning:

Short trek in the jungle

 

Midday:

Rafting 'jungle style' down Bohorok river for 2-3 hours

Enjoy views of green hills and possibly more wildlife

 

Afternoon:

Return to village/accommodation

 

End of Adventure.

Included:

Certified English speaking guide, porter, fresh fruits, snack, meals (Day 1-lunch, dinner. Day 2-breakfast, lunch, dinner. Day 3-breakfast, lunch, dinner. Day 4-breakfast, lunch), all equipment (tent, roll mat, sleeping bag),drinking water, and rafting back after the trek.

Package excludes:

Permit entrance to the Gunung Leuser National Park, camera tax 10 Euros/ person for normal day and 13 Euros/ person in Sundays or red days, payable to the national park office).

What to bring:

A small backpack with clothes, raincoat, swimwear, small towel, small pillow, personal items, toilet paper, medicines, camera + spare battery + memory card (in a waterproof bag), insect repellent, sunblock, torch, plastic bag (to put wet clothes in), sandals/ flip flops (to walk around the camp).

Please make sure your luggage is as light as possible.

​

You will be provided with a 1.5L bottle of water for each person, which the guide will refill at the camp with boiled water.

​

Clothing: long sleeves/trousers are optional as there are few mosquitos. Although nights can be cold in the jungle. Wearing something comfortable is most important.

Shoes: waterproof shoes with good grip/tread are essential for slippery paths.
